Quirky local canines will take centre stage in a new exhibition called Hair of the Dog by Berwick photographer Sarah Jamieson.

It’s a new project made up of images which help reveal the true nature of some of our more eccentric furry friends in and around town.

The idea came to camera whizz Sarah — a dab hand at capturing the nature of her human subjects — when she met a friend’s dog — one of the idlest pooches on the planet, a boxer called Benji.

His idea of fun is to nonchalantly lounge on the sofa as the world spins around and have a nice bit of shut-eye, while most dogs can’t wait to hot-paw it out of the door.

“I couldn’t believe how lazy he was but he is genuinely the most laid-back dog I’ve ever seen,” said Sarah who runs Pictorial Photography on the Ramparts Business Park. “And that planted the seed. I wanted to explore how to bring out the characters of dogs in portraits as I try to do with my human subjects.”

She is now doing photoshoots of some the area’s most distinctive dogs from a range of breeds and sizes.

“It was all about finding the biggest and most interesting personalities, and there was a huge response,” said Sarah.

“We uncovered some really lovely stories about people’s beloved pets which will feature alongside the portraits.”

These will feature in The Hair of the Dog exhibition later this summer.
