The window display of 27 Art House in Berwick’s Bridge Street begins to tell the tale of the philosophy behind this brave new venture of local artist Amy Izat.

A gentle floral cascade in pastel shades suggests peace, serenity and beauty are to be found inside, as well as creativity.

And if you’re lucky you might find her lovely labrador Teasel there too!

The space represents Amy’s ongoing recovery from the last few years during which she has had serious health issues, numerous operations and a loss of full sight. She has filled it with some of her own delicate line drawings alongside ceramics, clothing, scent, candles and more.

Activities in the pipeline include yoga, wellness, meditation and workshops to bring peace and inspiration.

She said: “I wanted to bring a range of experiences as well as products together so people from the town don’t have to travel elsewhere for them.”

Meanwhile fellow artist and friend Phoebe Stewart Carter, who studied fine art with Amy five years ago and is now a renowned portrait artist, has made her studio upstairs in the same building — another coup for Berwick.

Amy’s is expanding her horizons with interior decoration and design, but will continue to draw and paint.

Amy and Phoebe are planning an exhibition at the end of this year. To find out more, pop into the Art House and visit the links below.
